Church of the Nazarene, Bangor

The church originally began as a home church in the late 1970's under the leadership of the Reverend Kelvyn Adams. Over the years it had various locations before finding premises in Park Drive. The church at this time grew to 60/70 in number.

After Reverend Adams moved to Canada the work was continued by a number of other pastors. Despite their best efforts numbers declined to a stage of almost closing.

In 1998 numbering 12 in total the church was given premises on Church Street, Jennie Hanna Hall. This year also saw the beginning of the ministry of our current pastor Kenneth White.

In Easter 2000 the church moved to the Alderman George Green Community Centre in Rathgill.

August 2008 saw the opening of the current new premises.

Nazarene beliefs

The Church of the Nazarene is a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, tracing its roots to an anniversary date of 1908. It was founded to spread the message of scriptural holiness (Christ like living) across the lands. Today the Church of the Nazarene is located in 151 world areas.

The Church of the Nazarene believes that God offers to everyone forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, meaning in life, and the promise of heaven when life is over by entering and experiencing a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

The Church of the Nazarene is also a holiness church. We believe that Christians can experience a deeper level of life in which there is victory over sin, power to witness and serve, and a richer fellowship with God, all through the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
